NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday paid an emotional tribute to his deceased father and remembered former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 32nd death anniversary. “On the 32nd anniversary of his passing, I pay a heartfelt tribute to my beloved father, Rajiv Gandhi. Papa, you continue to be my eternal inspiration, residing in my memories forever!” Rahul Gandhi expressed his emotions in a poignant message.

Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, laid floral tributes at the memorial site of Rajiv Gandhi in New Delhi. Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge also honored the memory of the former Prime Minister on his death anniversary.
Rajiv Gandhi assumed leadership of the Congress party in 1984, following the tragic assassination of his mother, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At the age of 40, he became India’s youngest Prime Minister in October 1984. His tenure as the Prime Minister lasted until December 2, 1989.
Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was tragically assassinated on May 21, 1991, during an election rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, by a suicide bomber from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
