WhatsApp may soon play GIFs automatically on Android devices – Times of India

WhatsApp is soon expected to bring a new feature to its users. The feature is dubbed GIF auto-play, which plays any GIF automatically without tapping on it. According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is releasing a feature to automatically play GIFs, and as of now, it is available to some beta testers running Android. However, there is no update on when WhatsApp will roll out this feature to iOS users.
The update is rolling out through the Google Play Beta Program and carries the firmware version and has been observed as a compatible update. The report also adds that some users may be able to get the same feature after installing the previous update. The update will roll out to even more users over the coming days.
Previously, users had to tap the GIF to play its animation. With the new feature, if a GIF appears when a chat is opened or scrolled through a conversation, it will be automatically played.
WABetaInfo, in its report, also shared a video WhatsApp GIF, which, when opened, automatically plays the GIF. But, there’s a catch; at the end of the animation, users will have to tap on the GIF to play it again. The automatic playback is limited to the first time the GIF is displayed in the conversation to avoid constant distractions.
WhatsApp rolls out ‘reply with message’ feature for Android beta testers
Meanwhile, WhatsApp – in its previous Android beta update, rolled out a feature, dubbed, reply with message. The feature has reportedly started rolling out for certain beta testers on Android and has been integrated into the call notifications, allowing users to decline a call with a message.
The feature will allow users to decline an incoming call and send a text to the caller simultaneously. Users will have to simply decline a call and message the caller as to why they had to cut the call. Now, users will see a new ‘reply’ button on incoming call notifications, appearing alongside the two existing buttons–‘decline’ and ‘answer’.
